The Immortal life of Henrietta lacks

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, a novel discussing many themes and issues. But its main reoccurring theme is the idea of ethics and morality. seemingly enough the 10th grade sophomore curriculum of the Brentwood high school also explores those ideas, questioning  and enforcing students to really dive deep into their own thought processes. To really form and stand by their own opinion of what they believe is right and wrong. In the case of the summer reading book of Henrietta lacks, it explores the idea of consent. Leaving students to question whether  it was right for scientist to take, observe and experiment with Henriettas tissues without her consent. Especially seeing how with those tissues acquired, a good amount of scientific breakthroughs have been made and no profit was given to Henriettas family and relatives. And this is why I believe "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" was a good selection to start off sophomore year in the highschool. The book steers the students in the right state of mind they should be in.
