The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, a novel discussing many themes and issues. But its main reoccurring theme is the idea of ethics and morality. seemingly enough the 10th grade sophomore curriculum of the Brentwood high school also explores those ideas, questioning  and enforcing students to really dive deep into their own thought processes. To really form and stand by their own opinion of what they believe is right and wrong. In the case of the summer reading book of Henrietta lacks, it explores the idea of consent. Leaving students to question whether  it was right for scientist to take, observe and experiment with Henriettas tissues without her consent. Especially seeing how with those tissues acquired, a good amount of scientific breakthroughs have been made and no profit was given to Henriettas family and relatives. We are all products of the environment we grew up in. This rings true when talking about everything a person believes in and knows like their perception of right and wrong, their morals and their perspective of life in general. And when talking about what one person believes is ethical doesn't always carry on to the next persons ideals. It all depends on circumstances for one to decide what is right and wrong. Let's take this situation, two people see a homeless man outside a supermarket, both of them have only 10 dollars, one of them gives the homeless man 2 dollars while the other person gives nothing and walks right passed him. person A (the one who gave) thought person B (the one who didn't give) was selfish for seeing a suffering man and not giving even a dollar.
